David Beckham, 43 is a global international football sensation who admits having a mental health illness known as Obsessive compulsive disorder.

“Everything has to be in a straight line or everything has to be in pairs.”

Has revealed that he has been battling with Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Whereby everything in his life must be arranged in either type, colour or pairs as well as in a straight line. At one point, he purchased three identical refrigerators so that he can use one for drinks, another for salads and the third one for foods.

“If there’s 2 bottles of water, and 2 bottles of coke and 2 bottles of sprite, if there’s an extra can then I’ll take it out and put it in the cupboard and hide it.”

What is Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)?

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a mental illness. It’s an anxiety disorder whereby individuals have unwanted and repeated thoughts, feelings, ideas, sensations or behaviours that make them feel driven to do something. In the past his obsessive-compulsive disorder lead to behaviour consisting of him rearranging hotel rooms and positioning soft drinks in a perfect row. In a TV interview, which was aired before the World Cup David Beckham has made clear his attempt to break his cycle of repetitive behaviour but has failed.

“I’ve tried various treatments, but the biggest success is learning to live with this disorder.”

Mental health is becoming prominent within society today with high profile figures speaking out about their own condition. Other celebrities who struggle with Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD): Donald Trump, Cameron Diaz, Leonardo DiCaprio, Howie Mandel, Billy Bob Thornton, Justin Timberlake.
